Hello, I’m Charlene, the founder of FinFit GmbH. As a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) I have over a decade of financial experience spanning Asia and Europe, including a tenure at JPMorgan.
Interestingly, my academic background lies in Chinese literature (bachelor’s degree) and journalism (master’s degree). It was a surprise even to me when finance caught my interest, especially since our education system rarely touches upon it. I understand firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate the world of finance without a formal education, relying solely on self-study. If you’re new to finance and feel lost, please know that you’re not alone. I feel you because I was once you.
My career started as a banking journalist in Hong Kong, where I delved into the investment strategies of multi-millionaires and billionaires. This experience paved the way for positions at J.P. Morgan in Hong Kong and later with a wealthtech firm in Switzerland.
My job was all about making the rich even richer and I increasingly felt in my gut: it’s time for a change. That’s why I started this passion project with the mission to empower everyday people to work towards financial freedom. I firmly believe that the journey to financial freedom starts with a strong foundation in financial literacy.
Beyond the world of finance, I’m a fitness and boxing lover. Interestingly, I find numerous connections and parallels between fitness and finance. Just as achieving six-pack abs in a week is an unrealistic expectation, making a fortune overnight is equally impossible. Both fitness and investing require long-term thinking and a high level of self-discipline.
I see numerous online scams peddling get-rich-quick schemes, and when I encounter such content, it doesn’t just concern me; it genuinely makes me sad. People are being misled by empty promises that simply don’t align with reality. Building wealth or achieving fitness goals requires knowledge, effort, and time, not shortcuts and empty promises.
Without a solid understanding of asset allocation, risk management, and the risk-return profile of different asset classes and financial instruments, and your own risk profile, you might get rich in a month, but that’s not investing – it’s speculating or gambling. Same if you’re bypassing the fundamentals of muscle training, nutrition, and cardio, expecting to get six-pack abs by merely repeating specific exercises, you’re going to be disappointed.
Fitness has taught me that with the right knowledge, dedication and persistence, one can achieve any goal, be it physical or financial. And just as fitness is for every body type, I advocate that finance is not only for the privileged rich; finance is for EVERYONE. Let’s embark on this journey and achieve fitness in finance at FinFit!!
